What We Do in the Shadows: How to Watch the Series Finale’s Alternate Hypnosis Scenes
Though a show about vampires and not witches, FX’s What We Do in the Shadows worked a bit of magic with its series finale on Monday night, by stealthily airing not one but two alternate versions of its very final episode.
Without spoiling much of anything — I myself have yet to watch the finale, so I had to do some ninja-like tip-toeing whilst looking into this for all of you! — it appears that about 18 minutes into the series finale, Nadja (played by Natasia Demetriou) breaks the fourth wall to hypnotize those at home into seeing the “the most perfect ending.”

Now, if you watched the series finale’s first Monday-night airing, at 10/9c, the three minutes that followed spoofed a certain piece of pop culture history.
But if you caught the 10:30 pm “rerun,” that used an alternate “perfect ending” segment that parodied something else entirely.
And if you watched the 11 pm “rerun,” it served up a second alternate version of viewers’ “perfect ending” that spoofed a third TV show/movie.
NOTE: The 10 minutes that follow each three-minute hypnosis spoof are the same across all three versions.
What, you think that’s confusing…? If I may channel The Princess Bride‘s Vizzini, I haven’t even gotten started…!
HOW TO WATCH ALL OF THE ALTERNATE HYPNOSIS SCENES
The What We Do in the Shadows series finale now streaming on Hulu (at this link) is in fact one of the alternate versions; so if you watched Monday night’s 10 pm airing, you’ll want to jump to the 18-minute mark there and see what you “missed.”
The other two versions of the three-minute hypnosis results are tucked away on Hulu in What We Do in the Shadows‘ EXTRAS folder, here.
Once you have “binged” all three versions of the WWDITS finale, come hit the comments to cite your favorite!
