Seth Meyers Subtly Responds to Donald Trump Rant: ‘I Hope You Get a TV Soon That Allows You to Change the Channel’
Seth Meyers has subtly responded to Donald Trump after the President-elect called the late-night host “dumb and untalented” on Truth Social. On Wednesday’s “Late Night with Seth Meyers,” the host didn’t mention Trump by name — but with a wink and a nod, he noted Trump’s seemingly reluctant viewership.
“If you’re a Pete Hegseth fan, here’s the bad news: I’m about to do some jokes at his expense,” Meyers said at the start of Wednesday night’s “A Closer Look” segment. “But here’s the good news, he’s probably going to get confirmed as the next Secretary of Defense because it’s very unlikely that the Republicans will stand up to Donald Trump on this. And you might be saying, ‘Seth, why would a Pete Hegseth fan be watching your show?’ Fair point. It has come to my attention that sometimes people who do not care for me get stuck watching my show. And to those people, I would just say: You have my sympathy, and I hope you get a TV soon that allows you to change the channel.”

Meyers then moved on with his “Closer Look” discussion of Hegseth, and that was as far as Meyers went to address Trump’s Truth Social post on Tuesday that Comcast, which owns NBC, should “pay a big price” for what he called “political hits.”
“How bad is Seth Meyers on NBC, a ‘network’ run by a truly bad group of people — Remember, they also run MSDNC,” Trump wrote. “I got stuck watching Marble Mouth Meyers the other night, the first time in months, and every time I watch this moron I feel an obligation to say how dumb and untalented he is, merely a slot filler for the Scum that runs Comcast.”
Trump continued his rant: “These guys should be paying a lot of money for the right to give these ‘in kind’ contributions to the Radical Left Democrat Party. These are not shows or entertainment, they are simply political hits, 100% of the time, to me and the Republican Party. Comcast should pay a BIG price for this!”
Meyers has been a frequent and outspoken critic of Trump. He is one of several late-night hosts who have been publicly criticized by Trump, including Jimmy Kimmel, Jimmy Fallon and others.
Trump regularly attacks mainstream media outlets, often accusing them of bias and misrepresentation in their coverage of him. He recently levied a defamation lawsuit against CBS News and “60 Minutes,” and in December 2024, he settled a defamation suit with Disney after he sued ABC News over comments made by anchor George Stephanopoulos.
