Selena Gomez surprises high school volleyball team after they ask her to sing at game: 'I saw the sign'

Though she didn't perform the national anthem, Gomez popped in to take pictures and sign autographs.

A sign from the universe — or a couple of high schoolers — is more than enough to motivate a surprise from Selena Gomez.

On Saturday, the Only Murders in the Building star revealed a sweet moment she shared with the students of a Colorado high school who asked her to spin by their volleyball game.

Gomez posted a series of photos and videos on Instagram, including a shot of a bright orange sign she spotted after touching down in Telluride, Colo., for the 2024 Telluride Film Festival. "Selena Gomez, please sing the National Anthem @ one of home games," read the sign — which provided the dates and times of two matches — from the team.

Next came a clip of Gomez walking into the high school gymnasium to greet a shocked crowd of students. "I saw the sign, so I had to come by," Gomez said in the video.

Entertainment Weekly can confirm that Gomez did not perform the national anthem at the game, but based on the photos fans were more than happy just to have her there. The rest of the pictures show the actress posing for photos with the team and signing autographs in the gym.

"They asked!!" she captioned the post. "Couldn't help it. It's my first time in Telluride!"

Gomez is visiting Colorado for this weekend’s Telluride Film Festival as one of the stars of Jacques Audiard’s Emilia Pérez, a musical crime comedy that also features Zoe Saldaña, Karla Sofía Gascón, Adriana Paz, and Edgar Ramirez.

Gomez' big weekend also marked the premiere of Only Murders in the Building season 4, in which she teams up again with her fellow true-crime obsessives Steve Martin and Martin Short to solve new mysteries. Meanwhile, Emilia Pérez is set to hit theaters for a limited run on Nov. 1 before landing on Netflix on Nov. 13.
