Selena Gomez Called Her "OMITB" Costars Steve Martin And Martin Short "Childless Cat Ladies," And I'm Cackling
The 2024 Emmys are tonight, and the award show started strong with plenty of great jokes made by hosts Eugene and Dan Levy.
The presenters are throwing out some great zingers, too, especially Selena Gomez, Steve Martin, and Martin Short, who presented the first award of the night.
Martin joked about Steve's age, saying, "Steve, let me say what an honor it is to be working with someone who looks like he's fallen and can't get up."
And then Steve came in hot making fun of Martin, saying, "And let me say what an honor it is for me to be working with someone who looks like a former women's tennis champion."
And then Selena hit a home run with this playful dig at both of them: "And let me say, what an honor it is to work with two men who are this far away from being childless cat ladies."
Selena's joke comes just days after her close friend Taylor Swift publicly endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as her pick for the 2024 presidential election. Taylor signed her endorsement post "childless cat lady," referencing the phrase former president Donald Trump's running mate J.D. Vance said to mock Harris.
Vance's original quote came from a 2021 interview with Tucker Carlson. During the conversation, Vance called out women, namely Vice President Harris, who is a stepmother of two. He said, “We’re effectively run in this country, be it the Democrats, be it our corporate oligarchs, by a bunch of childless cat ladies, who are miserable at their own lives and the choices they’ve made, and so they want to make the rest of the country miserable, too."
