See Sony Music Publishing’s State of the Art New Office-Studio Compound in Hollywood (EXCLUSIVE)

Sony Music Publishing has unveiled its new flagship office and “creative hub” for songwriters in Los Angeles, which bring every element of its work under one roof.

Along with office space for the company’s staff, the hub boasts five dedicated writer studios, six listening rooms, an artist lounge and a state-of-the-art recording studio with a large control room and two independent recording booths. The creative suites, which boast state of the art equipment, are located alongside office and social areas to encourage interaction between creators and the company’s staff.

The office, housed in a renovated century-old building, was designed and built in collaboration with studio architects WSDG and the design collective RIOS. Today’s opening represents the culmination of a three-year project.

Sony Music Publishing Chairman-CEO Jon Platt says, “Our focus has been on creating environments that nurture the talent, vision, and goals of our songwriters and people. Our aim was to build a space that supports songwriters every step of the way, welcomes creators, and supports their needs. I am exceptionally proud of what we have built as a team.”

Sony Publishing songwriter Mike Sabath (Raye, Lizzo, Shawn Mendes) adds, “The space is really beautiful, lots of natural light and aliveness. I had my bird sounds playing from my phone in my pocket while Jon was giving me the tour. After he had shown me the entire space, I pulled out my phone and he was laughing, because the whole tour he was thinking there were birds flying around the office! Luckily, no birds flew in, but the space felt natural and open enough that some birds flying around would fit right in.”

The recording studio features the Augspurger Quattro 412V HP ULT-SUB 418-SXE/3500, a system capable of what is described as “extraordinary playback levels” thanks to the two-way main monitor cabinets loaded with four 12” LF drivers and one 4″ high compression driver with beryllium diaphragm on a rock maple wood horn. It is paired with Four subwoofer cabinets with two 18 sub drivers each.

All five writer studios are outfitted with state-of-the-art outboard gear such as Universal Audio 1176 and LA2A compressors. The writer studio setups are all identical to provide maximum flexibility and support for scheduling and production needs – so that any writer can use any available room.
