Before they were playing Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen — the rightful heir to the throne, depending on who you ask — Emma D'Arcy had their big break starring as Naomi Richards in six episodes of Netflix's Wanderlust (above).

And while they have come to global prominence in the HBO show, D'Arcy also had small roles in Truth Seekers, Baptiste and Foresight, among others, before leading HOTD.

Though Olivia Cooke had some significant stage roles earlier in her career, she got her first onscreen role playing Meg Demoys on the TV mini-series Blackout in 2012 (above).

She then snagged another three-episode arc in The Secret of Crickley Hall the same year and would pick up more roles — The Quiet Ones, Ouija, Axe Cop — until she got the part of Emma Decody in Bates Motel.

These days, Cooke of course, plays the controversial Alicent Hightower on HOTD.

Before he got the role of King Aegon II Targaryen, Tom Glynn-Carney cut his teeth playing George Thorne in two episodes of the BBC procedural drama, Casualty (above). Obviously, the actor was destined for great things as his next credit was in the Academy Award-winning Dunkirk.

He steadily built his career, snagging small roles in Rogue Heroes, Mayflies and The Jetty before playing a troublemaker in House of the Dragon.

Is he scary or is he sexy? Or is the mixture of both what makes Ewan Mitchell's Aemond Targaryen so alluring?

Before playing the dark and mysterious prince in House of the Dragon, Mitchell made his television debut playing Billy Taylor in six episodes of ITV's The Halcyon (above). His breakthrough role came in the BBC Two and Netflix show, The Last Kingdom.

Harry Collett

Like his costar Tom Glynn-Carney, Harry Collett also got his start on Casualty (above) though for a longer streak — and later moved on to Dunkirk from there. He snagged more credits in The Hive, Dolittle and some short films before he took on the role of Jacaerys Velaryon, Princess Rhaenyra's son.

A decorated stage actor, Eve Best had decades of acting under her belt before she lent her talents to the Game of Thrones prequel.

She previously starred in stage productions of Hedda Gabler (for which she snagged a Laurence Olivier Award), A Moon for the Misbegotten, As You Like It and The Homecoming, among many other notable works.

She was also a fixture on the small screen, famously playing Dr. O'Hara in Showtime's Nurse Jackie. Best also had small roles in Fate: The Winx Saga, Lucky Man and The Crown before she scored the role of Princess Rhaenys Targaryen. Fans will also remember she appeared in The King's Speech (above) back in 2010.

Another powerhouse, Steve Toussaint also has a career that spans decades. Though he rose to prominence playing Barry Christie in ITV's The Knock, the talented actor was clearly booked and busy as he also appeared as Steve Dixie in BBC's The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes (above) both in 1994.

In the decades that followed, he carved out an illustrious career, garnering credits on TV, in movies and also on stage. Nowadays, he plays Lord of the Tides and Head of the House Velaryon, Corlys Velaryon.

He is cunning, he is underhanded, and some may even say he is cruel, but certainly, Rhys Ifans' Otto Hightower makes a compelling villain.

A familiar face, fans may recognize Ifans from Notting Hill, The Amazing Spider-Man and The Kingsman. Potterheads will also know the Welsh actor as the man who brought Xenophilius Lovegood to the big screen in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (above).
