Searchlight Lands Spec ‘Clean Break’ From Writer Ryan Brennan With Scott Free Producing

EXCLUSIVE: Following a competitive situation, Searchlight Pictures has landed the spec Clean Break from scribe Ryan Brennan. Scott Free is producing. The project is in development.

When a fiercely independent pool hustler finally meets her match in a fellow pool shark, their irresistible but destructive attraction to one another leads to deadly consequences that she can’t outrun.

SVP Production Taylor Friedman and Creative Affairs Manager Daniel Yu will oversee the project for Searchlight, reporting to Heads of Production and Development DanTram Nguyen and Katie Goodson-Thomas. SVP of Film Sam Roston will be running point for Scott Free Productions.

For Brennan, this marks his first major spec sale, an impressive feat for a rising writing talent as more and more studios are cautious to take on a script with no talent involved. He has been cutting his teeth in the short film world, most recently directing, writing and producing Skinned.

What put him on the map and got his Untitled reps to find him was the Clean Break script under a different title, I’ll F**king Kill You, that which landed on the Black List a year ago today and became an instant hit on the site.
