Scott Cam slams Block quitters for leaving 'in the middle of the night'

The Block's Scott Cam hasn't held back when it comes to contestants Elle Ferguson and Joel Patfull, who left the show after just 48 hours of filming earlier this year.

While the couple has insisted they left filming of The Block Tree Change because Joel's mother Trish had fractured her neck during a fall at her home in Adelaide, Scott has since revealed the influencer couple didn't even tell anyone they were leaving and left with "no explanation".

"They didn’t give us a reason why they were leaving. They never mentioned anything to us about visiting their sick mother," Scott told news.com.au.

Scott shared that production flew Elle and Joel to Adelaide before The Block started and put them in a hotel so they could see Joel's mum, but they returned to Victoria and "said everything's fine".

The host added that the cast and crew were shocked to find out the couple had left.

"They never spoke to us, they just left in the middle of the night," he said. "I still don’t know why they left. They never mentioned their sick mother in the 48 hours before they left, or after they left. The executive producer spoke to them (after they left) and they didn’t mention their sick mother then either."

Scott then explained that if Joel and Elle had shared their reason for needing to leave, The Block would have temporarily shut down production for them to be with their family, adding it's been done in the past.

The Block not 'on brand' for Elle and Joel

It comes after Scott claimed to TV Week that the show wasn't "on brand" for Elle and Joel.

Apparently, Scott also claims the influencer pair complained that "the toilet paper was too scratchy".

Joel and Elle have since slammed the claims, saying they left the show after the first challenge due to a genuine family emergency.

They claim they tried to stay on the show, but "couldn't get a definitive answer" from production about whether Joel could "come and go" from the construction site in Victoria to his mum's house in South Australia.

At the time, when they left the show, Elle shared a post on her Instagram that read: "Wherever you are in the world. Whatever you are doing. Family always comes first."

Scott told TV Week he still wasn't convinced by their explanation, saying he never heard anything about Joel's mum when the pair left.

The host had previously said at Nine's Logies brunch that he thought Elle and Joel quitting after two days was "unAustralian" and "p*ss poor".

"Forty-five thousand people applied to be on The Block and win life-changing money. These guys got on and they just couldn't handle the pace after 48 hours," he said.

"Which to me is a bit unAustralian! Have a go! It's p**s poor."

Elle, who has almost 680,000 followers on Instagram, and her fiance Joel, a former GWS Giants player, were set to be two of the biggest names on this year’s show.

The 2022 cast includes five couples, with the other big name being Neighbours star Sharon Johal.
