SAS Australia casts everyday Aussies for ‘most extreme course ever’

Not long after the second season of SAS Australia wrapped up, with former NRL star Sam Burgess becoming the only recruit to pass the selection process, Channel Seven has announced a new version of the series set to premiere next week.

Rather than celebrities facing a number of gruelling physical and psychological challenges, 14 everyday Australians have been cast in a special edition of the military training show.

The four-part TV special, titled SAS Australia: Hell Week, will feature the participants taking on the ‘most extreme SAS course ever’ across one week.

“It’s going to take a very special individual to get to this end of this course,” Chief Instructor Ant Middleton said in a statement.

“Pain will be constant and we will weed out the weak. They’re going to realise very quickly why it’s called Hell Week.”

A new trailer for the series has been released showcasing the ‘ordinary’ people who volunteered for the intense experience.

“Are they ready to go to hell and back so they can find out who they truly are?” Ant asks in the video. “Ordinary Aussies are about to become anything but ordinary.”

One recruit featured in the teaser clip is Gary, labelled as ‘the fallen cop’, who opens up during an interrogation about losing his son ten days before filming began.

“I made him a promise that I wouldn’t quit,” he admits through tears.

Lena, a domestic violence survivor, is also highlighted in the video explaining why she decided to partake in the Channel Seven series.

“I want to see how far I can push myself,” she says. “You’ve got to keep going.”
