Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr. Celebrated Their 22nd Wedding Anniversary With the Cutest Selfie

True love isn't dead.

If you ever need a reminder that true love isn't dead, look no further than Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr., who as of September 1, celebrated 22 years of marriage—a number that serves as a true feat in Hollywood.

The couple shared a selfie of them together to their respective Instagram pages for the occasion. In the photo, Prinze Jr. hugs Gellar from behind, as they flash two wide smiles that reaches up to the corners of their eye. The couple also appeared to be on a getaway or sorts, and appeared on a balcony that overlooked a white sandy beach that was littered with tall coconut trees.

"22," they captioned the joint post, adding emojis for a diamond ring, clinking glasses of champagne and a blonde bride meant to represent Gellar.

The former teen idols tied the knot on September 1, 2002. While their love story isn't a swift and dramatic one, it started the way that most Hollywood romances do—on the set of a movie. Gellar and Prinze Jr. met while filming I Know What You Did Last Summer. At first, the couple were indifferent to each other, but things changed after the actor gave Gellar a ride to the gym, and they soon struck up a friendship.

“We were friends for a good two years before we went on a date. She knew what kind of guy I was," he told E! News. "She knew what my morals were, what my priorities were and vice versa. We already kind of knew all the faults in the other person,”

Their first date wasn't a planned endeavor, either—speaking with People in 2020, Gellar said, "We were friends for a very long time. We'd had many dinners before. And we were supposed to go with someone else, and the third person didn't make it out, and we decided to still go...We were just two people at dinner catching up. We had a long car ride and a long dinner and things just happened."

From then on, Prinze Jr. knew that Gellar was the right girl. "I didn't go on dates with other girls,” he said, “nor did I even want to pursue dates with other girls.”

And the rest, as they say, is history—Gellar and Prinze Jr. remain happily married. The couple shares their two children, Charlotte, 14, and Rocky, 11, who started high school and middle school respectively.
