Sarah Michelle Gellar Breaks Silence on Michelle Trachtenberg's Death
Sarah Michelle Gellar is reacting to the death of her former Buffy the Vampire Slayer co-star Michelle Trachtenberg.
On Wednesday, Feb. 26, Trachtenberg was found dead in her New York City apartment, police confirmed to Parade. She was 39. Her cause of death has not officially been released, but law enforcement said her death is not being investigated as suspicious.
After hearing the news, tributes to the late actress began pouring in, especially from fans of some of Trachtenberg's most-known projects, which include Gossip Girl, Harriet the Spy, Ice Princess and Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Gellar, who starred in the '90s supernatural series as the titular character, released a statement via Instagram the following day to pay tribute to Trachtenberg, who played her character's sister, Dawn Summers.
“'Michelle, listen to me. Listen. I love you. I will always love you. The hardest thing in this world, is to live in it,'" she wrote, paraphrasing what her character said to Trachtenberg's during the fifth season finale of the cult-classic series the two starred in. "'I will be brave. I will live… for you'💔💔💔🗝️."
Gellar, 47, isn't the only Buffy cast member to memorialize Trachtenberg in the wake of her death, as David Boreanaz and James Marsters also shared emotional messages in honor of their late co-star.
Boreanaz, who played Angel in the series, shared a photo of Trachtenberg on Instagram Stories, along with the message, "So very sad...horrible news. RIP and prayers to her and her family."
Marsters, who played Spike, shared a selfie with Trachtenberg via Instagram after hearing the tragic news, writing, "My heart is very heavy today."
"Godspeed Michelle. You are missed," he added in the emotional post.
