Saoirse Ronan isn't stepping through the wardrobe — at least, not yet.

The Outrun actress, 30, was asked by Jimmy Kimmel on his late-night talk show Thursday, Oct. 3, if there was any truth to the rumor that she would star in frequent collaborator Greta Gerwig's upcoming Narnia reboot films.

"There isn't no truth to it; she hasn't asked me yet," said Ronan. "She's writing it."

The four-time Oscar nominee went on to quip that she and Gerwig, 41, "have the kind of relationship where I just sort of go to her and I say, 'So I'll be in this, just so you know.' And she takes some time to think about it and then she goes, 'Okay.' "

"But she honestly hasn't asked me about Narnia. I think she's so kind of wrapped up in writing it right now," Ronan told Kimmel, 56.

Ronan and Gerwig have collaborated multiple times on film, including for the memorable Lady Bird (2017) and Little Women (2019), both of which starred Ronan in the lead roles.

The Irish actress spoke with PEOPLE in 2022 about how she was also "supposed to be in" Gerwig's 2023 summer blockbuster Barbie, which was the biggest film of the year at the box office.

"I was supposed to do a cameo in it because they were ... I live in London, and they were there. But because of The Outrun, I didn't," she said.

Ronan explained that she'd "texted" Gerwig and star/co-producer Margot Robbie "and I'm like, 'If you're doing any picks, maybe I can just walk through the background.' "

"But there was a whole character that I was going to play. And I was gutted I couldn't do it," she added, confirming that she would have played "another Barbie."

According to a July 2023 report in The Hollywood Reporter, Gerwig is said to have a deal with Netflix to bring not one, but two featured film adaptations of the beloved Narnia franchise to the streaming platform.

And during an appearance on the Inside Total Film podcast later that month, the filmmaker revealed that she was “properly scared” of the upcoming project, based on C.S. Lewis’ best-selling novel series from the 1950s, The Chronicles of Narnia.

“I haven't even really started wrapping my arms around it. But I'm properly scared of it, which feels like a good place to start. I think when I'm scared, it's always a good sign,” Gerwig continued. “Maybe when I stop being scared, it'll be like, 'Okay. Maybe I shouldn't do that one.' No, I'm terrified of it. It's extraordinary. And so we'll see.”

“I hope to make all different kinds of movies in the course of the time I get to make movies, which – it's a long time, but it's also limited," she added at the time. "I want to do big things and small things and everywhere in between, and having another big canvas is exciting and also daunting."

The Outrun is now playing in theaters.
