Samantha Armytage reveals how her fiancé popped the question and shows off her ring

On her first day back at work following the announcement of her engagement to Richard Lavender over the weekend, Sunrise's Samantha Armytage proudly showed off her new ring, while co-host David 'Kochie' Koch asked questions about the proposal.

"She's a blushing Sam," Kochie said as he welcomed her back to the show to which Sam responded, "I'm always a blushing bride," before realising her mistake and correcting herself, "Blushing Sam!"

As she showed off her ring, Kochie joked: "I should have brought my sunglasses!"

"That's Beyonce!" he added about the ring, which the Daily Mail reports is rumoured to have cost up to $80,000, something Sam quickly refuted.

"I'm very happy," she said, adding the weekend was "very low-key".

Kochie questioned whether she would get married in Mexico, seemingly referencing Karl Stefanovic's lavish nuptials, however, she quickly explained that was not the plan.

"No plans yet, we'll just take it easy," she said.

Sam revealed that Richard popped the question on his rural property in the NSW Southern Highlands "a few weeks ago".

“We’d been picking weeds in the paddock and he said ‘darling, do you want to marry me?” she said.

“It was very sweet, very romantic.”

“He’s just a very, charming, lovely fellow. He is totally the opposite of the showbiz world and TV.”

She added that Richard asked her dad Mac for permission before proposing, with Sam saying he's a total "gentleman".

“My parents love him, both our families get on very well, it’s a it’s a very happy union,” she said.

“We’re all thrilled, our families are the happiest, they’re so excited. Mum burst into tears.”

The same day as Sam announced her engagement to Richard, it was revealed the veteran presenter would only be appearing as co-host of the Channel Seven program four days a week from now on.

Fellow presenter Natalie Barr will step in to host Sunrise every Monday and Friday as Kochie also works four days a week with Fridays off.
