Sunrise stars get teary over Samantha Armytage's engagement

A very excited Sunrise team have shared their congratulations with the newly engaged Samantha Armytage on air on Monday after the presenter said "yes" to partner Richard Lavender.

The newly engaged presenter shared the exciting news on Instagram, writing, "What a year," alongside two snaps of herself and her new fiancé.

On Monday morning, David 'Kochie' Koch told their viewers, "There’s some very, very exciting news from the Sunrise family: Sam’s engaged!"

"Congratulations to Sam and Richard from everyone here at Sunrise. Isn't that a gorgeous photo?"

Natalie Barr agreed, "I know, aren't they beautiful?" She added, "Tomorrow Sam is back, of course, and we can't wait to hear all the details."

Kochie joked that he had put in a call and booked out Hamilton Island in the hopes they could televise the wedding live on Sunrise.

Nat joked, "Nothing like someone else to plan your wedding!"

Edwina Bartholomew joked, "I'm don't want to pre-empt what Sam's going to say tomorrow, but I'm guessing it's not in favour of that plan."

She added, "I got all teary seeing that over the weekend, it was so nice."

Nat agreed, "I know!"

Sam confirmed her relationship with Richard in WHO Magazine’s Sexiest Together feature.

She told the publication, "We both enjoy horses, skiing, architecture, art... It’s really important to have a lot in common. And so far, so good.

“He doesn’t care what people think of him, which I admire greatly. He’s very decent, very honest. I love that he’s so modest.”

The pair began dating in Easter last year and were introduced by a mutual friend.

Last September, they were spotted picking out jewellery at Jan Logan’s Double Bay store in Sydney, which fuelled engagement rumours.
