Sam Wood: 3 reasons to ditch the gym

When I first thought about starting an online program, I’ll admit that I was unsure whether I would be able to achieve the same results with my online clients that I do with the ones I see face to face.

It has now been three years since I launched 28 by Sam Wood and it’s safe to say that my initial fears are long gone; thousands of my 28ers have achieved incredible results without needing to step foot in a gym.

For some, the gym is a great option. I’m not anti-gyms, in fact I own one.

In today’s busy world, however, they simply don’t work for many people.

Time saving

The most common reason people have for not exercising enough is a lack of time. So being able to achieve a fantastic workout in under 30 minutes without leaving the house is a huge win.

It’s a misconception that you need fancy equipment or to train for hours to achieve great results. You can work your entire body and get stronger, fitter and leaner all from the comfort of your living room.

Working out at home also gives you the flexibility to work out at whatever time suits you.

Work around your schedule

As a dad to an 18-month-old, I know that days are unpredictable and training times can so easily go out the window.

Having the ability to train any time, with no need to find your keys or compete for a park, saves time and stress.

If you work a job (yes- being a stay-at-home mum or dad absolutely counts!) where 9-5 simply doesn’t apply to you, the ability to train at any time of the day or not can be the reason your workout gets done at all.

Snez often will only get through half a workout before Willow needs her attention so she’ll stop the workout and come back and finish it later.

A community just a click away

Another thing about home workouts is that some programs have an online community that almost becomes your second family.

I know that my private Facebook community of 35,000 are more like an extended family than simply people doing the same program.

Most gyms don’t have this sense of community that some online programs do and so many of my 28ers say that this is where they find their motivation and what keeps them going when they feel like giving up.

It’s amazing that once you develop a great, healthy working out at home routine, so many other positive health behaviours will stem from this.

It really does all start at home; working out at home, prepping your food, cooking for yourself and being a good role model for your children.

Once you have that healthy home routine set, the results are incredible.
