Sunrise host Samantha Armytage's awkward on-air blunder
If there’s one thing dedicated Sunrise viewers know, it’s that the hosts Sam Armytage and David ‘Kochie’ Koch have been caught up in the most unexpected of feuds this week with MAFS star Martha Kalifatidis.
But while addressing the ‘elbow-gate’ TV tiff during a radio interview on Thursday morning, Sam seemed to have an embarrassing slip-up of her own.
Appearing on Nova 96.9FM’s Sydney breakfast radio show, Sam slammed reality stars with all guns blazing, seemingly failing to realise host Ryan ‘Fitzy’ Fitzgerald shot to fame after starring on Big Brother in 2004.
“Let's not give it anymore oxygen because [Martha's] fifteen minutes [of fame] is going on and on,” the 42-year-old told Fitzy and co-host Michael ‘Wippa’ Wipfli.
“But have you ever been on those red carpets? They're pushy,” she continued.
“And have you ever been on those red carpets with a reality star? Very pushy!”
At this point Wippa chimed in to remind Sam of Fitzy’s TV career launching pad on Big Brother, where he finished up in fourth place.
“Fitzy, he was from Big Brother and he was really pushy!” said Wippa, which Sam tried to laugh off.
Back to Martha and ‘elbow-gate’, Sam told the radio hosts that the Married At First Sight star definitely ‘elbowed’ her co-host Kochie at the 2019 TV Week Logie Awards.
On Wednesday night Martha posted a new clip on her Instagram account, in a bid to set the record straight with her ‘truth’ about the apparent red carpet incident.
“I'm a person and I have feelings and Sam and Koch have caused me so much stress and anxiety these past few days and I just feel like it's so unnecessary, like for what, for ratings?” the reality star said in the candid video.
“It's at the expense of my wellbeing and it's not fair.”
Martha, who is still with MAFS husband Michael Brunelli in real life, went on to say the backlash she’s received is unnecessary, and that she didn’t ask for this feud to ignite in the first place.
“He [Kochie] just thinks that because I was on a reality TV show and I'm a reality TV star that I don't deserve to get an apology from him or perhaps that I'm beneath him,” she told her followers.
“They've continued to mock me every morning on their show and I just feel like that goes to show you that they're no better than the thousands of trolling messages I've received over the last few months.”
