Sacha Baron Cohen jokes about Johnny Depp's 'dog smuggling operation'

In case you're wondering: no, the Johnny Depp/Barnaby Joyce/dog-smuggling drama isn't over yet.

In fact, it just keeps on getting better and better.

Now, Depp's Alice Through The Looking Glass co-star, comedian Sacha Baron Cohen, has weighed in on the ever-evolving situation.

Speaking to Sunrise, the actor - who is married to Aussie actress Isla Fisher - joked that the whole movie was a huge cover up for Depp's "illegal activities".

"What I found out after a while was that the actual whole movie was a cover for a big dog smuggling operation that Johnny had been doing...using his private jet to ferry, literally cramming in there, like sardines...ramming these high-end dogs and transporting them around the world," he said.

"I mean, it's illegal activity!"

Cohen was happy to share the 'exclusive' information, even questioning whether Aussie audiences would see the new film considering "Johnny Depp's in it, the great dog smuggler".

Cohen's comments are just the latest in a never-ending slinging match between the Hollywood heavyweight and Australia's Deputy Prime Minister, Barnaby Joyce.

Depp recently joked that Joyce looked like "he was inbred with a tomato", with Joyce responding that he was "turning into Johnny Depp's Hannibal Lecter".

"I'm inside his head, I'm pulling little strings and pulling little levers. Long after I've forgotten about Mr Depp, he's remembering me," Joyce told reporters.
