As its title suggests, the new season of Murphy and Ian Brennan’s true-crime anthology series tells the real-life story of brothers convicted in 1996 for the murders of their parents, José and Mary Louise Menendez.
“While the prosecution argued they were seeking to inherit their family fortune, the brothers claimed — and remain adamant to this day, as they serve life sentences without the possibility of parole — that their actions stemmed out of fear from a lifetime of physical, emotional, and sexual abuse at the hands of their parents,” reads Netflix’s official synopsis.
The new season “dives into the historic case that took the world by storm, paved the way for audiences’ modern-day fascination with true crime, and in return asks those audiences: Who are the real monsters?”
Creators Murphy and Brennan also executive-produce alongside Alexis Martin Woodall, Eric Kovtun, Scott Robertson, David McMillan, Louise Shore, director Carl Franklin and series star Javier Bardem.

Javier Bardem as José Menendez
Bardem will play José Menendez, Erik and Lyle’s father. (Fun fact: This is a mini reunion for Bardem and Murphy, the latter of whom wrote and directed 2010’s Eat Pray Love, in which Bardem starred opposite Julia Roberts.)
Chloë Sevigny as Mary Louise ‘Kitty’ Menendez
Sevigny, who most recently worked with Murphy on FX’s FEUD: Capote vs. the Swans, will play Mary Louise Menendez (aka “Kitty”), Erik and Lyle’s mother.
Nicholas Alexander Chavez as Lyle Menendez
Chavez, who took home a 2022 Daytime Emmy Award for his work as Spencer Cassadine on General Hospital, stars as Lyle Menendez.
Cooper Koch as Erik Menendez
Koch (Power Book II: Ghost) will star alongside Chavez as Erik Menendez.
Nathan Lane as Dominick Dunne
Lane, who also stars in Murphy’s upcoming sitcom Mid-Century Modern, will play Dunne, a journalist who famously covered the Menendez murder trial.
Ari Graynor as Leslie Abramson
Graynor, another newcomer to the Murphy-verse, will play Erik Mendendez’s defense attorney Leslie Abramson.
