The Running Man was turned into a 1987 movie starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. A chase thriller set in a dystopian America in the year 2025, the story centers on Ben Richards, a desperate man who participates in violent reality show called The Running Man to win enough money to revive his gravely ill daughter. The show follows Richards being chased by numerous hunters sent to kill him.

While Schwarzenegger was the star, his game-show host counterpart in the film, played by Richard Dawson, stole their scenes. Sources say in Wright’s version, the TV exec played by Brolin will be more of the central villain, but given how important the host role was in the original, Wright and execs were aiming high with who they wanted in the part, ultimately landing on Domingo.

Wright is directing and co-writing the script with Michael Bacall, and will produce with his producing partner Nira Park and Simon Kinberg. George Linder will executive produce.

The Oscar-nominated Domingo, best known for roles in Rustin and his Emmy-winning role in Euphoria, has had quite the year that began with his acclaimed role in A24’s Sing Sing. The film earned him several accolades including a Golden Globe nomination. He was also recently seen in the Netflix series The Madness and landed a role in Steven Spielberg‘s next film.

He is repped by WME and Liebman Entertainment.
