Yahoo Lifestyle Runners sign up to race as squirrels for charity
Organisers of a fundraising run in honour of a charity worker have more than 30 people signed up to take part in the event dressed as squirrels.
The run will remember Dean Lowe, who worked for Jersey Employment Trust (JET), who was killed with his son Charlie in a hit-and-run in August 2023.
Mr Lowe dressed as a squirrel to run the virtual London Marathon in April 2023 when he raised money for Acorn, JET's social enterprise providing work and training for people with disabilities.
Organisers hope to get at least 50 "squirrels" for the Go Nuts for Acorn event in St Helier as it would have been Mr Lowe's 50th birthday this year.
The event on Thursday 13 March has been organised by Caroline Spencer who worked with Mr Lowe.
She said: "Dean would have turned 50 in February 2025 and we think he would love the idea of a squirrel run in his memory.
"Our aim is to have 50 people and we have more than 30 already."
"We can go up to 100 people."
Those dresses as squirrels are due to gather in West's Centre before heading off to Bath Street and turning into Queen Street. The runners will then head to Charing Cross before reaching the finish line in the Royal Square.
There will be a fun warm-up before the event and entertainment in the Royal Square.
