Fans think Serena Williams was the anonymous friend who spoke in frank royal interview

They say to choose your friends wisely, and it seems Meghan Markle has an epic group of gals around her.

Just yesterday, five of her closest pals gave an anonymous interview to People magazine, standing up for the Duchess of Sussex.

They rubbished her dad, Thomas Markle’s claims that he doesn’t know how to contact the former Suits star and said Meghan was never close with her half-sister, Samantha Markle.

And while their identities were all kept under wraps, fans think Serena Williams may have outed herself as one of the five in a tweet she posted online.

The 37-year-old tennis player uploaded of picture of herself to the social media site, alongside the simple caption: “Sips tea…”

This got people talking straight away, because during the interview, one of the unnamed friends talked all about Meghan’s hospitality and what it’s like to stay at Kensington Palace for a night.

“In the room she made up for me, there was a candle lit by the bed, slippers and a robe,” the anonymous pal said.

“We were the only two in the house. It was our time. She made the most lovely meals. She made tea every day.”

Many people think it’s case closed and Serena must be one of the friends who spoke out.

“You’re a great friend, Serena! Let Meghan know we have her back and we’re praying for her,” one person commented.

“Thank you for being a friend, traveled down the road & back again, your heart is true, you’re a pal & a confidant..Thank you for being a friend,” another person said.

Others simply posted a picture of Meghan sipping on tea in the exact same pose as Serena’s initial snap.

While we don’t know if Serena will ever confirm standing up for the Duchess, there’s no denying the woman’s a great mate.

Serena and Meghan met in 2010 and have been firm friends since, with the tennis star sitting pride of place at St George’s Chapel in Windsor when Meghan married Prince Harry in May last year.

Last year, Serena revealed on The Sunday Project that the pair still rely on each other.

“We were actually just texting each other this morning,” she revealed.

“We have known each other for a long time, but we really kind of are relying on each other right a lot recently.

Meghan spoke about her friendship with Serena on her now deleted website The Tig, writing: “We hit it off immediately, taking pictures, laughing through the flag football game we were both playing in, and chatting not about tennis or acting, but about all the good old fashioned girly stuff. So began our friendship.”
