The Row Turns Down the Volume for Fall 2025
The Row’s pendulum swung back toward a sleeker silhouette this season, dialing down volume after several seasons of exaggerated proportions. Instead, Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen’s studied take on layers added depth for fall.
The result was a more defined focus on sporty and collegiate staples, with plenty of texture in wide-wale cords and nubby brushed cashmere sweaters. The designers are famously obsessed with tiny tweaks to inch a garment toward perfection, and sought a lived-in look for many pieces this season, which were treated to have “vintage” touches such as marbling or a bit of fray straight out of the shop.

Tonality, too, was a key theme, with the designers layering ever-so-slight variations of color such as navy blue, chocolate brown or a slate-green gray called “fossil” for subtle shading that deepened the brand’s take on basics.
The sisters also played with the idea of constructing garments from the inside out, most evident in a brushed cashmere coat which takes design cues from a traditional lining for outerwear and drapes it over the garment in a clever cape style with satin details at the collar.
Their penchant for manipulating shape was evident in a silk blouse with rounded sleeves, for a soft touch that contrasted with the sharp tailoring on their traditional cotton shirting.
That sense of soft ease also translated to eveningwear in a black jersey dress with a neck wrap with a ’90s minimalist bent, as well as a sleeveless, mullet-style tunic envisioned to be worn over trousers with options in jersey and a splashier sequin. The designers’ love of the masculine-feminine balance was tipped with a take on the classic button-down shirt, inverted to leave a keyhole opening at the back.
Building on the smashing success of their Margaux bag, the house is expanding its accessories at a clip, introducing several new styles. The Marlo, which will land in stores with the spring collection, carries forth the spirit of the Margaux in shape. Others are the Alger, with contrasting hand stitching, the Ewa, a top handle edition, and the Izzy, a woven leather style that will debut in fall.
The Row knows their client and with their attention to subtle movements, this season they should have another successful collection in the bag.
