Rosamund Pike's latest cut is a striking take on the bob hair trend
From the extra polished, glamorous 'old money' bob to Keira Knightley's grungey, shoulder-grazing lengths, the bob haircut proves to be this year's most versatile hairdo.
Actress Rosamund Pike was an early adopter of the bob hairstyle, but her recent trim is certainly one of the most fashion-forward approaches to the trend.
Pike has been loyal to her clavicle-length hair for the past few years, varying between blunt, straight-edged cuts to flippy ends and beachy textures. Today, Pike revealed a more angular style via her social media, showcasing a bob haircut that appears shorter in the back, with longer, face-framing pieces that end just below the chin.
This graduated chin-length cut is ideal for anyone who's ready to take a longer bob to the next level without committing to a pixie chop. A regular trim (every six weeks) is needed to maintain the distinctive shape, says Monica Liz, a hairstylist at The Loch Salon, but the endless versatility of the look makes a little extra upkeep more than worth it. Wear it as Pike does with a sleek, clean finish or scrunch dry to add some movement, spritzing hair with a texture spray to create undone waves.
According to Liz, styling a chin-length bob depends on your natural hair texture. "Opting for curl creams and diffusing or leaving to dry naturally will give you a much softer look, while smoothing creams and heat protection are a must for those looking for a straighter, sleeker finish," shares Liz.
If you are wearing your hair styled straight more regularly than not, Liz recommends asking your stylist to straighten your hair right after your cut. That way, you'll get the perfect finish for your everyday style and pick up tailored tips to maintain salon-worthy polish according to how your hair moves naturally.
