The Rookie’s Melissa O’Neil Takes Us Inside Lucy’s Head After #Chenford Twist in Valentine’s Episode (VIDEO)

The following contains spoilers from the Feb. 11 episode of ABC’s The Rookie.

Apparently they should. And they did. Boy, did they.

For seven long weeks — ever since TVLine treated you to this exclusive teaser trailer — ABC’s The Rookie had #Chenford fans wondering how a close moment between a shirtless Tim Bradford (Eric Winter) and his Florence Nightingale, Lucy Chen (Melissa O’Neil), would play out.

Those fans got their answer in Tuesday night’s Valentine’s Day-themed episode, when Tim’s “We shouldn’t…” was met with Lucy pulling him in for a long, passionate kiss… that led to a long, decidedly non-grumpy night of ex sex.

But what all was going in on Lucy’s mind the morning after, when she tried oh-so-hard not to rouse her lover and slip away back to her own aprés-gala hotel room?

Is there something she wanted to say but couldn’t, about their might of lovemaking? Or, was there something she wanted to hear Tim say, and he didn’t?

“She doesn’t want to wake him up because she doesn’t want to have ‘the conversation,'” Melissa O’Neil shares in the TVLine video above. “It’s probably best not to get into a conversation and be looking at him all sweet in bed the morning after, then get roped into breakfast, and maybe lunch… and maybe another night.”

O’Neil proceeds to elaborate on Lucy’s mixed feelings about an “ill-advised” romp with an ex who has “unresolved” issues, and then gives a hint for what the road ahead has in store for the Colleagues With Benefits.

Noting that “the fans are so deeply invested” in #Chenford, O’Neil teases “something that is coming” where “people will feel really connected to Lucy’s internal experience of confusion!”

We then close things out with talk of how Tim’s recently and randomly resurfaced Season 2 girlfriend, Rachel, will “stir the pot,” as previewed by showrunner Alexi Hawley. As I say in the video, don’t @ me!
