‘Robin Hood’ MGM+ Series Casts Connie Nielsen (EXCLUSIVE)
Connie Nielsen has joined the cast of the upcoming series “Robin Hood” at MGM+, Variety has learned exclusively.
The 10 episode series was greenlit in September 2024 and recently began production in Serbia. Nielsen will appear alongside previously announced cast members like leads Jack Patten, Lauren McQueen, and Sean Bean. Additional cast members include Lydia Peckham, Henry Rowley, Steven Waddington, Marcus Fraser, and Angus Castle-Doughty.

Nielson will star as Eleanor of Aquitaine, described as “One of the most powerful women in history, Eleanor is a queen, a strategist, and a force of nature. A ruler who has outmaneuvered kings and led crusades, she sees the world for what it is — a battlefield.”

Nielsen’s recently starred in “Gladiator II,” reprising her role from the original film. She also recently appeared in “Zack Snyder’s Justice League” and both “Wonder Woman 1984” and “Wonder Woman” in the role of Queen Hippolyta. Her other film roles include “Nymphomaniac,” “Basic,” and “One Hour Photo,” while her TV credits include “Law & Order: SVU” and “The Following.”
She is repped by UTA, Soli e Associati, The Artists Partnership, Untitled Entertainment, and Lichter Grossman.
The logline for “Robin Hood” says, “Following the Norman invasion of England, Rob (Patten) – a Saxon forester’s son – and Marian (McQueen), the daughter of a Norman lord – fall in love and work together to fight for justice and freedom. As Rob rises as the leader of a band of rebel outlaws, Marian infiltrates the power at court, as both work together to thwart royal corruption and bring peace to the land.”
John Glenn and Jonathan English are writers and executive producers on the series. Glenn also serves as showrunner, while English is also directing. Todd Lieberman of Hidden Pictures executive produces, with Carly Elter and Nicole Bryant of Hidden Pictures overseeing the project for the company. Lionsgate Television is the studio. In addition to premiering on MGM+ in the U.S., the series will be available to MGM+ viewers in the U.K., Italy, Germany, Spain, Latin America, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg.
