Robert Irwin reveals 'special' Steve Irwin discovery: 'Stunned'
Robert Irwin has been busy promoting his new project, a photography book called ‘Robert Irwin’s Australia’.
The star appeared on Sunrise to share the special stories that his new book holds about his father’s legacy.
Talking candidly to David ‘Kochie’ Koch and Natalie Barr, he revealed that Steve Irwin was an ‘incredibly passionate’ about photography.
“Not a lot of people knew this…my dad was an incredibly passionate photographer/ My dad had an amazing eye behind the lens, and not only was he there in front of the camera pushing that conservation message, but he was often behind the camera getting those shots, getting really close,” he gushed.
“I was always around cameras from a young age thanks to him, and now I get to be behind the lens.”

He told the Brekky Central hosts that he wanted to show people that it was ‘important’ to ‘conserve our natural world’, and also shine a light on how ‘amazing’ Australia is.
The conservationist also opened up about a discovery he made in Steve’s old office when studying his father’s photography.
“I was actually cleaning out his own office, looking through some of the archives and found his own camera gear and I was stunned,” he recalled.
“I came to mum and said, ‘What’s all this amazing, professional photography equipment doing here?’. And mum [says], ‘That’s all your dad’s!’. He was the real deal, he had all the lenses, all the cameras.
“It’s a really special thing, and it meant a lot to me,” he told the hosts.
Kochie also said that he was ‘stunned’ by the ‘amount of effort’ wildlife photography can take, and asked Robert if he was patient.
“No, not at all. The only thing I am patient with is photography,” he laughed, before adding that he finds the process ‘rewarding’.
Robert’s book retails for $189 on the Australia Zoo website, and Robert describes it as ‘years in the making’.
