Robbie Williams shares heartbreaking post about recent weight loss: 'Self-hatred'

Robbie Williams has left his followers heartbroken after sharing a post about his recent weight loss and body dysmorphia.

The 49-year-old took to Instagram to share his struggles after his wife shared a video of him earlier this year showing off his significantly slimmer frame.

At the time, fans were surprised by the singer's new look, with Robbie sharing a cartoon of two people, with one telling the other that their weight loss has "gone too far". The other tells them, "Aw, bless you," with a smile on their face.

"My ideal goal weight is people being worried about me," the caption on the cartoon read.

Robbie then shared a lengthy caption that read: "So, if a genie appeared and said you can either have your superpower be the ability to fly or eat what you want and remain at your goal weight? I would go for goal weight eating every day. What about you?

"I could write a book about self loathing where my body image is concerned. Like pure self hatred, the ugliness of feeling ugly. I'm body dysmorphic and on top of being dysmorphic at times I can be 40+ pounds over weight. So you can imagine what my mind sees. Or maybe you can’t either way it's a f***ing disaster."

He continued, saying that even his current size doesn't make him happy, "At the moment I'm skinny... But me being me my mind is going 'F***ing great Rob, you managed to get skinny and now [you're] old, congrats, golf clap'. The struggle is real, the sadness shocking. I’ve had it all my life. And it won't abate."

Robbie questioned why "self-acceptance" and "self-love" were so difficult, adding that he was sharing his thoughts on the matter for "some sort of release".

"And if someone else recognises themselves in the words I’ve written maybe it helps both of us," he added.

Many of Robbie's friends and followers shared their support for the singer, with one user responding, "Robb you're speaking to more people than you realise".

Singer Paloma Faith also wrote, "I'm exactly the same... Sometimes when I see photos of me and I'm slim I can’t believe it and assume they have been PhotoShopped because in my mind I'm ALWAYS over weight and it’s exhausting. I wish I could be body positive but alas I’m just body negative and I’ve had two babies!"

"Darling, it's programming. Media. Advertising. Relentless," another said. "Knowing that doesn't make it easier, especially when you're in the public eye, god knows. You're an amazing human with superhuman talent. Never forget."
