Salon reports on an interview they conducted with Dr. Vanessa Woods, the director of the Puppy Kindergarten at Duke University, where she said, "There are things that people can do with their dogs to improve their relationships," Woods said. "We have this game in the documentary where you put a treat in a container and then close it. When puppies played this game, just for five minutes every two weeks, they actually had twice as much eye contact with the experimenter, which is really important for dogs and their people. Just by playing little fun games, it can really improve the relationship that people have with their dogs."

I guess I know what a lot of us dog parents will be doing with our dogs this weekend, playing the treat in the container game with them!

Eye contact is a very important aspect of the relationship you have with your dog, and The American Kennel Club reports, "Just as humans stare into the eyes of someone they adore, dogs will stare at their owners to express affection. In fact, mutual staring between humans and dogs releases oxytocin, known as the love hormone. This chemical plays an important role in bonding and boosts feelings of love and trust."

Not to exclude any cat parents out there, Netflix released a documentary about cats in 2022 entitled, you guessed it, Inside the Mind of a Cat.

This documentary film explains why cats are able to jump as high as they can. how cats actually smile, and why it seems are cats are most active at night.

We aren't about to get into a cats versus dog argument here, because honestly both animals are wonderful and so many of us are both proud cat and dog parents, so basically why not make it a double feature and enjoy both of these wonderful documentaries? You're sure to learn something new about your own fur baby.
