Reese Witherspoon Celebrates ‘Wonderful’ Son Tennessee's 12th Birthday: ‘I Love You, Buddy’

Tennessee also received birthday tributes from his siblings Ava and Deacon Phillippe, who shared sweet photos with their little brother on their Instagram Stories

Reese Witherspoon is celebrating another birthday for her son Tennessee James!

The Morning Show star, 48, shared a sentimental tribute on Instagram to her youngest son — whom she shares with ex-husband Jim Toth — as he turned 12 on Friday, Sept. 27.

In the post, she shared a cute mother-son snap of her and Tennessee smiling at the camera. The actress, who wore a black shirt with an orange sweater, could be seen wrapping an arm around her son as he posed in a blue shirt with a white flower print.

“Happy 12th Birthday to my wonderful son, Tenn! 💙,” Witherspoon captioned the photo. “I'm so lucky to have your joyful, curious, hilarious spirit in my life making me laugh everyday. I love you, buddy 🥰.”

Witherspoon’s daughter Ava Phillippe, 25, whom she shares with ex-husband Ryan Phillippe, also wished the 12-year-old a happy birthday on her Instagram Stories, posting early on Thursday, Sept. 26.

She shared a photo of herself holding hands with her little brother when he was still a toddler and wrote over the snap, “Can’t believe my once tiny brother…”

Ava followed that post up with a more recent black and white photo of herself standing next to Tennessee as he stood only a few inches shorter than her, and finished her previous sentence by writing, “... is now 12 years old & about to be my same height.”

“Happy happy birthday to this quick-witted, funny, curious & thoughtful dude that I’m lucky enough to call my baby brother. ❤️🎉,” she added, before dropping in one more shot of her brother smiling widely as he held a disco ball.

Witherspoon’s other son Deacon Phillippe, 20, who she also shares with Ryan, also paid tribute to his brother in his Instagram Stories the same day as his sister, sharing a photo of Tennessee eating a waffle while writing, “What up 12 🎂.”

He also shared a fun photo of the tween wearing glasses while riding in the passenger seat of a car with the crown emoji and a sweet brotherly snap wrapping his arms around Tennessee in a big hug as the pair smiled at the camera. Over the photo of them embracing he added, “Love this kid.”

Witherspoon and Toth filed for divorce in March 2023 and settled a few months later in August 2023. Despite their separation, a source told PEOPLE in March 2023 that Tennessee was still the pair’s main “focus.”

"They love Tennessee… The move from Los Angeles to Nashville was a big deal for him," the insider shared. "They don't want the divorce to affect him negatively. They will continue to co-parent amicably. There is no drama."
