Mum's 'horrifying' blunder caught on husband's work video call
If there’s one tiny silver lining to be found amid the devastating coronavirus crisis it’s the fact that many of us have been working from home, making phone and video calls our main means of communication with colleagues.
And with video calls, in particular, comes the tantalising yet terrifying risk of something going horribly wrong. Take what happened to this poor mum, for example, who proudly announced that she had, to put it politely, used the lavatory in full view of her husband’s work conference call on Zoom.
She took to Reddit to recount her cringe-worthy tale, explaining that she, her husband and their eldest child had taken to celebrating their toilet visits in order to encourage their two-year-old to do the same.
“Since there's not much else to do while working from home under quarantine, we've decided we're going to potty train our two-year-old next month,” the mum wrote.
“In an effort to get [her] interested in the potty, we (myself, husband, and our 5-year-old) have been proudly announcing when we do our business, and then promptly giving each other high fives and cheers,” she added.
The plan appeared to be going well until this happened:
“So today after I do my business, I proudly run downstairs and proclaim in a loud reaches-the-back-of-the-room kind of voice, ‘I WENT POOPIE ON THE POTTY!!!!!’ and there is dead silence.
“I look at my family staring back at me with wide eyes. I'm really confused until a heartbeat later, I realise my husband is on a conference call that is both unmuted and on speaker.”

To make matters ‘even more horrifying,’ the red-faced mum explained that the call not only included her husband’s immediate team but also his ‘many supervisors across different sites’.
In an attempt to save face, the woman shouted, “Omg are you on a CONFERENCE CALL?!” but didn’t receive the response she wanted.
“Yay, mommy went poopie!” her two-year-old cheered.
“I'm not sure what happened next because I died. RIP me and I'm not going to any Christmas party ever again now,” the mum concluded.
Her fellow Reddit users jumped into the comments section to assure her that it wasn’t something to be embarrassed about.
“Is it weird I don’t think that’s bad? I think it’s cute and humanizes your husband having to work at home with his family. Nothing to be embarrassed about,” one wrote.
“Hah. Any parents on that call definitely understand,” pointed out another.
Others contributed their own loo-related tales:
“When my oldest was in boy scouts, we were at a den meeting. The leader’s youngest interrupted with ‘I went peepee in the potty’. All the boys stood up and cheered,” one wrote.
“My mom informed me I also mortified her announcing I went peepee all by myself...in church, during prayer. You're welcome, Ma,” added another.
