Rebel Wilson has opened up in a new interview about the shocking examples of sexual harassment she has experienced during her career.
During a TV interview with the BBC, the 41-year-old Hollywood star shared two different incidents she experienced, saying one happened before the ‘MeToo’ and she "didn’t quite know what to do" at the time.
She said she was working on one film when a male co-star called her out of her trailer and took her to a room where his male friends were reportedly waiting with their phones.
Rebel reveals co-star's shock act
Rebel said her co-star then pulled down his pants and asked her to perform an inappropriate act.
"I was in shock, I was like, ‘What’s going on?’ Just kept saying, ‘No, what is this?’ Like, ‘No, no, no,’” the Pitch Perfect star said.
“His buddies are laughing and he’s kind of clearly getting off on it. This was before ‘MeToo’. I didn’t quite know what to do and I was in a foreign country.”
Rebel called her agent and they reported the incident to the studio, explaining she was reportedly the fourth woman to make a complaint against the unnamed actor.
Though she stayed on the project as she “felt like it was the professional thing to do”, if something similar happened again she said she wouldn't.
“Now I have the courage to be like, OK, that is disgusting,” she said.
Another incident occurred in her 20s, when the comedian said she found herself with a “big time” film director in a hotel room in Australia.
"I literally thought I was going to have a meeting about comedy and talk about comedy,” she said, revealing that instead the man "kept trying to give me more and more alcohol".
“The director gets a call from his wife and I’m sitting there on the couch and it was one of those phones that if somebody left a message, you could hear it through the speaker of the phone. She started saying, ‘You’ve got Rebel in that hotel room, you were going to sleep with her...’ I heard the message."
She left the room and never told anyone about the incident.
Rebel Wilson reveals her own team pushed back against her weight loss journey
In the same interview, the star also opened up about the fact that her own team in Hollywood were against her 'Year of Health' plans when she first told them.
She said her team questioned why she would want to do that when she was proving so successful as an actor, "earning millions of dollars being the funny fat girl".
At the beginning of 2020, Rebel decided she was going to make this her 'Year Of Health”, revealing previously that turning 40 had inspired her to rethink her health regime.
Since then she has undergone a dramatic body transformation, but the star has noticed that her incredible 35kg weight loss has courted a lot of attention.
The Bridesmaids actor also discussed society's "obsession" with female body shape.
"It's fascinating, why are people so obsessed with it? Like, with women in particular about their looks?" she said.
"I know what it's like to be a woman who is essentially invisible to most people because of not being seen as traditionally beautiful or whatever.
"So is that what a woman has to do in the world, is just lose weight to like, get attention?" she said.
