When one thinks of country music legends, it's likely Reba McEntire and Dolly Parton come to mind. But while they've both been in the game for some time, it turns out their first meeting didn't go the way folks may have thought.

Reba was in attendance at the Grand Ole Opry 100: a Live Celebration concert on March 19, where she paid tribute to Dolly and her impact on the country music scene. Dolly herself was absent from the big night due to the recent death of her husband Carl Dean.

When walking the red carpet before the event, Reba spoke with WSM Radio about her own Grand Ole Opry debut in September 1977. Apparently, this was also the first time Dolly and Reba crossed paths — literally — and it clearly had a big impact on Reba.

"I walked in and they said, 'We're going to cut you back to one song, because Dolly just rolled into the parking lot and we're gonna give her one of your songs,'" she recalled about the night in a clip posted on Instagram. "I said, 'OK. Can I meet her?' I didn't get to meet her but she did walk right in front of me."

But that's not all Reba had to say about Dolly. When speaking about her impression of her now dear friend, Reba declared she'd never seen someone more beautiful — both then and now.

"She's the most beautiful lady I've ever seen in my life — like an angel," she added. "She still is. And we're going to miss her tonight."

Even though the two didn't meet at the Grand Ole Opry all those years ago, their friendship has definitely blossomed since. In fact, the two have covered each other's songs over the years, with Dolly posting a duet of them singing Reba's single "Does He Love You" on TikTok back in October 2024.

"Nothing like singing with my dear friend @Reba McEntire ❤️," she captioned the post at the time.
