Donald Trump is expected to meet the Duke of Sussex during his three-day state visit next week, but Prince Harry will very likely not be enthusiastic about greeting the new guest.

The US president, will join the Queen, for a private lunch at Buckingham Palace on Monday, which will also be attended by Prince Harry.

But things could be awkward between the two men, after several distasteful comments made by the president about Harry’s family members.

It’s been reported that Mr Trump pursued Harry’s mother Princess Diana, following her divorce from Prince Charles in 1996.

“(Family friend) Selina Scott says that Donald Trump absolutely bombarded Princess Diana with flowers and invitations to meet, so there’s a reason for Harry to think he’s a super-creep and not really want to meet him,” political commentator and journalist Daisy McAndrew told Yahoo’s The Royal Box.

Broadcaster and journalist Selina Scott was one of Diana’s closest confidants.

She wrote a piece in The Sunday Times in 2015, about Mr Trump’s advances towards the princess, when he was still married to his second wife Marla Maples.

She said: “Trump clearly saw Diana as the ultimate trophy wife.

“As the roses and orchids piled up at her apartment she became increasingly concerned about what she should do. It had begun to feel as if Trump was stalking her.”

Scott claimed that Diana said of Mr Trump, “he gives me the creeps.”

The former businessman then made shocking comments about how he could have bedded Princess Diana.

The interview took place with Howard Stern, just weeks after the royal’s death in 1997.

Radio show host Stern asked Mr Trump: “Why do people think it’s egotistical of you to say you could’ve gotten with Lady Di?

“You could’ve gotten her, right? You could’ve nailed her.”

Mr Trump replied: “I think I could have.”

The then-business mogul also made some distasteful comments on Twitter about Harry’s sister-in-law Kate Middleton in 2012, after photographs of the duchess sunbathing topless were published in a French magazine.

He tweeted at the time: “Kate Middleton is great--but she shouldn’t be sunbathing in the nude--only herself to blame.”

Another tweet read: “Who wouldn’t take Kate’s picture and make lots of money if she does the nude sunbathing thing. Come on Kate!.”

Harry’s wife Meghan will not meet the US president during his state visit.

The new mum is currently on maternity leave after giving birth to son Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor on May 6.

McAndrew also says that Meghan tried to avoid Mr Trump, when she was working on Deal or No Deal as a briefcase girl in 2006.

"Donald Trump came on to publicise The Apprentice,” she said.

“One of (Meghans’s) fellow briefcase girls said he was ‘super creepy’ and started inviting all the briefcase girls out and that Meghan thought he was a creep and decided not to go."
