Rami Malek explains that cringe Nicole Kidman snub
He might have been one of the big winners of the night at the Golden Globe awards earlier this week but Rami Malek is “haunted” by his on-stage snub from Nicole Kidman.
The awkward moment happened at the very end of the show, when the 51-year-old Aussie actress presented the cast of Bohemian Rhapsody with the gong for Best Drama Motion Picture.
Rami, who starred as Freddie Mercury in the film, walked up on stage with the rest of the cast when he went to give Nicole a hug just as she turned her back on him.
The 37-year-old actor relived the moment during an interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live, and he explained that his relationship with Nicole is far more friendly in real life than it appeared in the clip.
“I had not seen that,” an embarrassed Malek said after seeing the clip.
“I’ve known her for many years, despite as it may seem from that video,” he admitted with a laugh. “So, I thought I could easily go up and say, ‘Hi,’ but in a moment like that …”
He then added: “I have a feeling this is haunting me on the internet right now.”
“Yeah, this is going to be around for a little while,” Jimmy replied.
But it wasn’t all bad as Rami revealed he got some love and support from Nicole’s husband, Keith Urban.
“That’s alright, I got love from Keith that night, her husband,” Malek laughed. “He’s a massive Queen fan.”
The awkward moment first went viral when a Twitter user posted the video online alongside the caption: “Rami Malek trying to talk to Nicole Kidman is like me trying to talk to my crush.”
Rami seemed to recover quickly from the awkward moment and was later pictured beaming as he stood on stage alongside Nicole.
He was also still very likely on a high after his win for Best Actor for his role in the film.
