Yahoo Lifestyle Rachael Kirkconnell Says Matt James Dropped Breakup Prayer 3 Hours After Their Split, While She Was on a Flight
Rachael Kirkconnell spilled every single detail of her breakup with Matt James on Call Her Daddy last night, saying they split up after he said he couldn’t see himself marrying her.
As a reminder, Matt announced news of their split via a prayer on Instagram on January 16:
Which happens to be the same day he and Rachael broke up. In fact, he dropped his post just three hours after their split—when she was on a plane back to the United States from Tokyo with a phone that doesn’t connect to plane Wi-Fi.
“Whenever I take these long flights, I’m off the grid,” she said. “So, we’re literally getting ready to take off and my phone blows up. It’s one of my best friends and it says ‘Rach’ with a bunch of question marks, and as soon as I saw that, I’m like, ‘Oh my gosh, how does she know?’ and then she texts me again and said, ‘I saw Matt’s post. Is this real life?’ And that’s how I found out that he posted.”
“I’m freaking out because, you know, just got broken up with and now, a few hours later, it’s for the whole world to see and I’m still trying to process it,” she added. “I’m still in total shock, so then knowing, like, the whole world is seeing this. I’m like, ‘This is so crazy. I can’t even wrap my mind around this right now.’”
As for Matt’s choice to post a prayer, Rachael said, “I guess it almost seemed like saying it like a prayer was the easier way to say it than to say something real. Not that it wasn’t real but just something authentic to our actual relationship, but it’s very him. I guess it didn’t surprise me that he said it like that. I guess I was just surprised that he said it at all, that he posted that.”
For what it’s worth, Rachael says Matt apologized for blindsiding her with the post, and they've since been in touch (though nope, they aren’t getting back together). For more on their split...
