Quentin Tarantino refuses to watch “Toy Story 4” because “Toy Story 3” ended perfectly: 'I'm done!'

Tarantino said the Disney animated film is "one of the best movies" he's ever seen.

The Toy Story series — or, at least, the first three films in the franchise — have a friend in Quentin Tarantino.

Joining Bill Maher on a recent episode of his Club Random podcast, the Oscar-winning director made a surprising revelation that he considers the third film in the beloved Disney/Pixar series to be one of the best movies he's ever seen, but that his affection for the story made him reluctant to accept future sequels — including the planned Toy Story 5.

After Maher brought up the strengths of the first two Godfather films and how he felt the polarizing third installment marked a dip in quality for stepping outside the established story arc, Tarantino cited the Toy Story movies as another example.

"There was a thing where, you probably don't like it, but I'm a big, big fan. I don't watch all the animated movies and stuff, but I am a big fan of the Toy Story trilogy," Tarantino admitted. "In the case of Toy Story, the third one is just magnificent, it's one of the best movies I've ever seen. If you've seen the other two, it's just devastating."

After Maher indicated he wasn't familiar with the films — which star Tom Hanks as the voice of a cowboy doll named Woody and Tim Allen as the Buzz Lightyear action figure — Tarantino leaned into his love for the films' story, which he felt should have ended with the third movie in 2010.

"The thing is, three years later, they did a fourth, and I have no desire to see it," Tarantino said. "You literally ended the story as perfect as you could, so, no, I don't care if it's good. I'm done. I am done. It can still be good, but I'm done!"

Maher then joked about sustained fan demand for a third Kill Bill movie, quipping, "This is why there's no Kill Bill 3, right?" to which Tarantino stressed, "I killed Bill!"

In other Toy Story franchise news, Disney recently teased at its D23 convention that Toy Story 5 would follow the characters' struggle to capture a child's attention away from digital devices.

Allen earlier noted that Disney had reached out to him to reprise his role as Buzz.

"Bob Iger, head of Disney, said it was on," Allen said in November on The Tonight Show. “He actually said it was going to happen. They have reached out to Tom and I to reprise the roles. They're not saying anything about it."
