Guy Sebastian makes shock Voice call

Guy Sebastian is leaving The Voice.

The popular singer made the huge announcement on Instagram on Wednesday, saying he would not return to the Channel 7 show next year to focus instead on the release of his next album.

“I have made the decision to take a break from the best red chair on the planet,” he said in a long post to Insta.

“It’s been six amazing years as a coach and it’s honestly been the best gig ever!

“I have nothing but good things to say about the show itself, and sharing the panel with such amazing coaches has been a pleasure.

“It’s been a privilege to guide the next wave of Aussie talent alongside the wonderful teams and crew at Network 7 and ITV Studios!

“The best thing about the show is how positive it is and how much care and passion goes into making it a safe place for artists.

“For me right now, it’s time to focus more on my core, which is writing and performing new music.

“I am busy planning shows in Australia and worldwide and I am really looking forward to getting out and connecting with you all there.

“For too long now, I have been reading comments from you asking when I will be visiting your town/country and it’s high time I come and visit!

“I’ve worked on this upcoming album for four years and I’ve poured everything I have into it, so I need to pay respect to that effort and the art I’ve created.

The Voice, now in its 13th season, shows of emerging artists, with the winner receiving a cash prize and a recording contract with a major studio.

While Sebastian is leaving, he also hinted he could return once again to the long-running show.

“Whoever has the audacity to take my chair, don’t get too comfortable…I will wrestle for it back with zero dignity when I’m ready to return,” he said.

In a statement, Seven chief content officer Brook Hall thanked Sebastian for his time as a judge on The Voice.

“Guy has been a powerhouse coach for The Voice on Seven,” she said.

“His mentorship and command of artistry has been inspirational to our Voice artists and viewers alike, as well as the production team and all at Seven.

“We thank Guy for his unwavering passion and positive energy on set, and wish him well for next year, the release of his new album and his live shows.

“Our full coaching line up for the 2025 season of The Voice will be revealed in coming months.”

Sebastian first shot to fame after winning Season 1 of Australian Idol in 2003.

The Adelaide-raised musician has released nine studio albums, with his latest T.R.U.T.H in 2020.

Fans responded with shock and affection across social media to the entertainment shakeup.

“Congratulations on six years,” one wrote.

“A great Australian voice on The Voice”.
