The Queen to step down from duties in 2021, royal expert claims
A royal biographer has claimed the Queen will step down in 2021, handing over the reins of the royal family to her son and successor, Prince Charles.
The Queen, who is set to turn 95 in April next year, has been sitting on the British throne since 1952 and is the UK's longest-serving monarch.
Speaking to True Royalty TV's weekly programme The Royal Beat, biographer Robert Jobson said: "I still firmly believe when the Queen becomes 95, that she will step down."

Newsweek's royal reporter Jack Royston replied: "I think she won't want to. But realistically she will get to a point where she has handed over everything to Charles and then how do you look your son in the eye and tell him he is not going to be King?"
It comes after the Queen received backlash in October during her first public royal engagement since March.
The 94-year-old monarch was in Salisbury to meet with novichok poisoning heroes alongside grandson Prince William, but neither the royals or anyone else present wore a face mask, which sparked widespread outrage online.
Piers Morgan took to Twitter to voice his concerns about the lack of face coverings amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
“Why no masks or social distancing? Sorry, but this is not a smart move by the royal family as the virus rages and the country heads into another lockdown,” the TV personality said.
And plenty of other royal fans seemed to agree.
“The entitlement of this. No mask wearing when you could have set a real example and shown that it is OK to wear a mask. Instead everyone has to get tested so you don’t have to wear a mask. Seems we aren’t ‘all in this together’. That is the UK. Covid story,” was one person’s response.
“Not wearing masks. Ok. Seriously nobody in the Royal family has any sense of what is happening in the real world?” another angry fan wrote.
The UK is now set to go into a new month-long lockdown after a resurgence in coronavirus cases across the country.
The Queen and Prince Philip had been cocooning in Windsor for the seven months prior to her first public appearance.
Meanwhile, Prince Charles, who would be taking over the throne from his mother, tested positive for the coronavirus in March after displaying mild symptoms.
He’s also been keeping away from London during the pandemic, shacking up in his Scotland home with wife, Camilla.
