Princess Diana's Brother Charles Spencer Splits From Wife of 13 Years

Charles Spencer and wife Karen

Charles Spencer, the brother of the late Princess Diana, and his wife Karen have officially split after 13 years of marriage.

Spencer shared the news with the Daily Mail on Sunday, telling the publication, "It is immensely sad. I just want to devote myself to all my children, and to my grandchildren, and I wish Karen every happiness in the future."

Karen has not shared a public comment about the split, although the Daily Mail reported that the couple announced the news to staff at Althorp House, Spencer's ancestral home, a few months ago.

Along with news of the split, the British publication claimed that Spencer has "become close to" a woman named Dr. Cat Jarman, a Norwegian archaeologist currently working with Spencer on The Rabbit Hole Detectives, a history podcast the two host alongside Reverend Richard Coles.

Jarman is currently separated from her husband, and the Daily Mail claimed that friends of Spencer said "they look very happy together but that it is early days."

Spencer has not made publicly commented about the reported relationship with the archaeologist.

Spencer and Karen met on a blind date in 2010 and married the following year, tying the knot at Althorp, where Diana is buried. The two welcomed their daughter, Charlotte Diana, in 2012.

Karen is Spencer's third wife. He first married Victoria Lockwood in 1989, and the two had four children together before their divorce in 1997. Spencer then tied the knot with Caroline Freud in 2001. The couple had two children together, announcing their separation in 2007 and legally divorcing sometime after.

In March of this year, Spencer became a grandfather when his eldest child, Kitty, welcomed a daughter with her husband, Michael Lewis.

As for Karen, she was previously married to Mark Gordon, with the union lasting from 1997 to 2003. They share two children.
