Prince William feels 'betrayed and let down' by Prince Harry
The year has got off to a rocky start for the royal family after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s bombshell news that they’re stepping away from their senior roles within the Firm.
The Queen called an emergency crisis meeting, Kate Middleton was pictured looking frazzled as she drove out of Kensington Palace and the Duchess of Sussex dashed back to Canada to be with her beloved baby boy, Archie.
Now it’s being claimed that Prince Harry and Prince William’s bond has “never been so bad”, with Wills feeling “betrayed” by his younger brother.
“It’s absolutely heartbreaking to see just how damaged William and Harry’s relationship has become,” a senior royal source told The Sun.
“They’ll always love each other as brothers, but right now things have never been so bad. William feels betrayed and let down by Harry.
“Harry feels like William and Kate never gave Meghan a chance. And now they’re leaving the country in this state.”
According to The Sunday Times, Prince William spoke to a friend about the brothers’ ‘broken bond’ given how close they were growing up.
“I’ve put my arm around my brother all our lives. I can’t do it anymore,” the prince reportedly said.
He added that all he can do now is “try and support them”.
Yesterday, in an unprecedented move by the royal brothers, they released a joint statement denying that the Sussexes were “bullied” out of the royal family by William.
“Despite clear denials, a false story ran in a UK newspaper today speculating about the relationship between The Duke of Sussex and The Duke of Cambridge,” the statement read.
“For brothers who care so deeply about the issues surrounding mental health, the use of inflammatory language in this way is offensive and potentially harmful.”
Speculation regarding a feud between Prince Harry and Prince William began to mount at the end of 2018, just months after the Sussexes tied the knot.
It was seemingly sparked by the announcement that Meghan and Harry planned to move to Windsor before Archie’s birth, with rumours swirling that it had to do with a rift between Meghan and Kate.
However, The Sun’s royal correspondent Emily Andrews told Yahoo UK’s ‘The Royal Box,’ that the tension was actually between brothers William and Harry and that they did not see each other in private for six months after the royal wedding last year.
Andrews said: “I think behind the scenes, Harry and William’s relationship has always been up and down actually but of course, we’ve never really seen that.”
Then, it was announced that they would be splitting their households and that Harry and Meghan’s whole communications team would be based out of Buckingham Palace instead of Kensington Palace.
Many saw this as a clear sign that the Sussexes had no interest in continuing their career as the ‘Fab Four’ and signaled their desire to be seen as a separate entity.
A short while later, Prince William and Kate Middleton took control of The Royal Foundation, a charity the brothers started together.
