Prince William and Kate Middleton's 'curious' coronation arrival: 'Clearly running late'

If you thought there was a tense atmosphere in the air, this might explain it.

There’s always some members of the family you can’t trust to arrive at a function on time and it appears Prince William and Kate Middleton may have been the culprits at the coronation.

According to reports, Will and Kate, who were accompanied by two of their children, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, arrived late at King Charles’ coronation, causing there to be a last-minute shift in the proceedings.

The official order of service showed that all members of the congregation, including the Wales family, would be seated in Westminster Abbey before King Charles’ arrival on the day.

According to news.com.au, Channel 7 host David ‘Kochie’ Koch and royal commentator Victoria Arbiter noticed the odd turn of events.

“This is very curious. The Wales' are not here yet because of course the King and Queen Consort were supposed to be the last [to arrive] so you have to wonder what hiccup there was perhaps at Buckingham Palace this morning,” Victoria said to Kochie as the royals arrived at the Abbey.

“Every parent of little kids is thinking it could be one of a multitude of things,” Kochie said, with Victoria replying: “Louis is five, let’s put it that way.”

The publication also notes that their colleague, Michael Usher, witnessed the Wales’ royal car “screaming by” with the family “clearly running late”.

Indeed, there was a moment of mystery as King Charles arrived at the Abbey, with a footman seen chatting to the clearly unimpressed King before he went inside.

The moment didn't go unnoticed by royal fans online either, as they took to social media to express their confusion.

"Major “fight in the car” energy from all four of them," one Twitter user said.

"They were late and Charles was not amused," another said.

While things may have got off to a rocky start, the reported late arrival of the Wales' didn't impact the day, with royal fans gushing over Kate Middleton's stunning outfit.

Kate oozed glamour on the day in an ivory silk crepe Alexander McQueen dress. She bucked tradition by wearing an Alexander McQueen headpiece instead of a crown and paid tribute to the late Diana with her diamond earrings.

The Princess of Wales twinned with her adorable eight-year-old daughter, Princess Charlotte, who also wore an Alexander McQueen outfit and headpiece.
