Prince William and Kate Middleton preparing to be King and Queen 'sooner' than expected
King Charles has been battling cancer this year, but has remained as busy as ever.
Prince William and Kate Middleton are reportedly preparing to be King and Queen "sooner than they would have expected". A royal insider has claimed that King Charles' cancer battle has brought forward the discussion of the transition to the throne for William.
Both Charles and Kate have been battling cancer this year, with the Princess of Wales recently returning to work in a reduced capacity. The King took off a little bit of time earlier in the year but has been working hard while receiving cancer treatment.

Royal biographer Sally Bedell Smith told People magazine, "Although the King is carrying out his duties with typical determination, he has had to accept limitations during his cancer treatment. As a result William has been taking on more responsibilities, and he and Kate have been preparing for their future roles sooner than they would have expected."
An insider also added, "There's a sense of calm before the storm. They are next in line for the biggest job of their lives, and of course, Kate's health has taken priority, but it's also allowed everyone to take a step back and figure out what's important right now."
The magazine added that "plans continue to be made behind the scenes for their eventual succession", and that William and Kate are "increasingly aware" of the situation.
Kate and William will not change priorities
Royal sources have revealed that succession plans are always in place and "it is something the institution is always mindful of".
Friends of the couple have revealed they will not change their priorities, however, and that their children will always come first.
"Life-threatening illnesses bring a reconsideration of priorities," one said. "She and William have always made it clear that family is the most important thing."
