Prince Harry and Meghan ‘booed’ by celebrity crowd at award show

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were reportedly ridiculed by a star-studded audience at a major British award show on Friday.

The celebrity crowd attending the UK’s National Television Awards ‘booed’ and ‘jeered’ at the royal couple when a clip played from their infamous interview with Oprah, according to Mail Online.

Media icon Sir Trevor McDonald introduced a clip montage of the most iconic national TV moments from 2021, including coverage of the COVID-19 pandemic and Prince Philip’s funeral in April.

While it didn’t appear on the TV broadcast, the crowd was allegedly heard booing when footage of Harry and Meghan’s tell-all with Oprah was shown.

“Immediately, there was audible booing throughout the arena. It was as though they were pantomime villains,” one source claimed.

A second source added: “Some shouted out and there was laughing. There were a few embarrassed faces but sadly Meghan was obviously not too popular on the night.”

The NTAs, which is often labelled ‘television’s biggest night of the year’ and could be compared to Australia’s Logie Awards, was attended by a number of Britain’s biggest TV celebrities.

The guest list included This Morning’s Holly Willoughby, Alan Carr and Anne Hegerty, as well as contestants from Love Island UK and Drag Race UK.

While the crowd’s alleged dislike for Harry and Meghan wasn’t aired on TV, the aversion towards controversial personality Piers Morgan was very apparent.

The 56-year-old took to Twitter to share footage of the mixed reaction he received at the award ceremony.

“Love the boos being drowned out by cheers… Ronaldo gets the same crowd reactions,” he tweeted.

Harry and Meghan’s Oprah interview in March, which was viewed by 17 million people worldwide, dropped some major bombshells about the royal family.

As well as the claim that a family member made racist remarks about the colour of their then-unborn son Archie’s skin tone, Meghan also countered reports and said that it was Kate Middleton that made her cry before her 2018 wedding to Harry.

It was announced in July that Harry would be releasing a “wholly truthful" tell-all memoir, which is expected to cause mayhem within the entire royal family.

In a statement, the 36-year-old said: “I'm writing this not as the prince I was born but as the man I have become.

“I've worn many hats over the years, both literally and figuratively, and my hope that in telling my story - the highs and lows, the mistakes, the lessons learned - I can help show that no matter where we come from, we have more in common than we think.

“I'm deeply grateful for the opportunity to share what I've learned over the course of my life so far and excited for people to read a first-hand account of my life that's accurate and wholly truthful.”
