Prince Harry was 'left out' growing up and was in William's 'shadow'
Prince William and Prince Harry may be thick as thieves now, but Harry reportedly felt “left out” growing up with his big brother.
Royal biographer and Vanity Fair correspondent Katie Nicholl detailed in her 2018 book, Harry: Life, Loss and Love, that Harry was “acutely aware of his position” in the shadow of older brother William.
Harry ‘left out’ growing up with William
It was Princess Diana’s confidante and close friend, Simone Simmons, who spilled the beans to Nicholl, and claimed the Queen Mother gave Wills “more attention” simply due to his position in the royal bloodline.
“I remember Harry complaining that when he and William were with the Queen Mother, that William was always the centre of attention,” she said.
“William would be sitting next to the Queen Mother in a drawing room that dwarfed the pair of them, and Harry would be sitting at a distance from them keeping himself entertained.”
There was allegedly one time which got young Harry “particularly upset” when a royal “butler brought sandwiches for her and William”.
Regardless, William and Harry went on to be very close during their formative teen years, especially after their mother, Diana, passed away in 1997.
The siblings are no strangers to sharing a cheeky giggle together when out in public – Wills’ wedding to Kate Middleton in 2011 ring any bells for anyone?
Wills and Harry’s relationship ‘strained’
However, claims emerged last month things between the brothers have become strained over Harry’s relationship with Meghan Markle.
According to The Sun, the brothers are ‘barely speaking’ and have been like that ever since Harry’s wedding to Meghan in May 2018 – which if you think about it, means their feud has been going on for roughly 250 days or about eight months.
Within that time, Harry and Meghan made the decision to move away from their neighbours, William and Kate, at Kensington Palace, and into Frogmore Cottage on Windsor estate instead, to prepare for the arrival of their first child.
We’re sure this iconic brother duo can work through it.
