Kath Boucher, 49-years-old, of South Wales, dropped in to visit her daughter, Leah Walters, at around six o'clock on Christmas morning to open their gifts together.

Instead of swapping Christmas presents, however, Mrs Boucher found herself delivering her own grandchild in the hallway of her daughter's home.

Earlier on Christmas morning, Mrs Boucher's son-in-law James phoned her with the news her daughter was in labour. Expecting a long day and hours spent in the hospital waiting room, Mrs Boucher arrived at her daughter's house to find her crying in pain, with her labour in full swing.

Mrs Boucher phoned paramedics who were able to talk her through the delivery. She told Wales Online, “I called them and that’s when they told me to lie her on the floor. It was very hard, with the baby coming out and putting pressure on its head. I just threw my phone and grabbed the baby.”

At 7:10am Mrs Boucher delivered her baby granddaughter, Millie Holly Walters. Millie is the second child for Mrs Walters who already has a seven-year-old daughter, Ellie.

Mrs Walters says they chose Holly as a middle name because it fit in with the festive season.

Baby Millie was then taken to Prince Charles Hospital in Merthyr Tydfil in Wales where she was checked over by staff and then given the all clear to go home with her family.

Mrs Boucher says the experience is one that she doesn't want to repeat again, but that "Millie is a little darling and the best Christmas present ever."
