Platinum Jubilee: Royal fans spot touching detail in Prince Louis’ outfit

The Platinum Jubilee celebrations are well underway in London and while the world is recognising Queen Elizabeth II’s 70 years on the throne, fans online are saying that Prince Louis has stolen the show.

As well as pulling funny faces while watching the RAF flypast on the Buckingham Palace balcony, the four-year-old royal, who is the youngest child of Prince William and Kate Middleton, has been praised for his choice of outfit.

It didn’t take long for social media users to note that Louis was wearing the same blue sailor suit that his father wore 37 years ago.

Prince William wore the outfit to the 1985 Trooping the Colour Parade when he was just two years old, standing on the same balcony alongside his parents, Prince Charles and Princess Diana.

Louis showed off his vintage outfit as he joined his siblings, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, in their Trooping the Colour carriage debut.

The trio of children all wore coordinated outfits, with George in a navy suit with a blue tie and Charlotte in a blue dress with a cute bow on the neckline.

Kate also sat in the royal carriage wearing a white Alexander McQueen dress and navy blue hat, while William rode on horseback alongside his father Prince Charles and aunt Princess Anne during the royal procession.

George, Charlotte and Louis are said to have more of a “visible” role in the Platinum Jubilee events, which continue through to June 5.

“I love seeing the little royals recreate looks from their parents!” one person tweeted.

“The Cambridge children are THE moment, so cute,” another added.

“He looked perfect, as did William,” a third wrote, while others said the look was “timeless” and “classic”.

Queen Victoria first came up with the trend for royal children to wear nautical clothing back in 1846 when she was sailing around the Channel Islands on the Royal Yacht.

She then made her four-year-old son ‘Bertie’, the future King Edward VII, wear a white and blue “sailor’s dress” designed by the same man who made the country’s official naval attire.

Bertie’s father Prince Albert loved the outfit so much that he had a portrait commissioned to gift Victoria for Christmas.
