Pink announces surprise regional Aussie show, thrilling campaigners: 'It's a miracle'
A decade-long campaign to get Pink to Townsville has paid off.
While US superstar Pink is basically an honorary Australian citizen at this point, regional Aussie fans are celebrating a big win: the singing sensation has announced a Townsville show for her 2024 tour.
Queenslanders worked hard behind the scenes to get the pop star's attention and get Pink to Townsville, with a whole campaign dedicated to it — aptly titled Bring PINK to Townsville.
In a chat with Yahoo Lifestyle, the organisers behind 'Bring PINK to Townsville' talked about how important the campaign — which they actually started in 2012 — was to the community.
"I think it's a great win for the community," one of the organisers, Kylie, said.
"After the floods in 2019, this campaign wasn't just about Townsville. It was a whole region: Weipa to Mt Isa to Rocky. People told their stories of being carers, being on dialysis, or couldn't travel far for various reasons. It's just amazing that it's actually happening. It's a miracle."

What started as a campaign between two friends, Jo and Kylie, grew into something much bigger, as another Pink fan, Allysha, jumped on board to help promote the campaign.
"We had 'Bring Pink to Townsville' shirts made, bumper stickers, banners, signs. We did a Pink party, and a flash mob dance in the city," Kylie told us.
"We did many charity events, as we know Pink is very much into many charities. [We] started with teaming up with the North Queensland Cowboys for a Pink round to raise money for McGrath Foundation. We did raffles... 100s of hours spent trying to get anyone to listen."
And earlier this week, Pink finally confirmed the good news for Townsville locals in a heartfelt video.
"I am super excited to let you know I am finishing my Australian stadium run in Townsville," the singer announced.
Pink's Australian 'Carnival' tour kicks off February 9 next year, and will now finish its run in Townsville on March 23, 2024.
Live Nation has revealed that more than 725,000 tickets for Pink's 2024 shows have been snapped up already, with Live Nation vice president Luke Hede saying he expected the Townsville show to be a sellout. The Country Bank stadium in Townsville can hold up to 35,000 people.
"[Pink] holds the record at every entertainment centre in Australia," he said. "We heard loud and clear there was an appetite for Pink in this market."

Pink also announced earlier this week that her support act would be 'Dance Monkey' singer Tones and I. The Aussie singer uploaded an Instagram post in her own announcement for the Pink tour, sharing why this tour is so important for her.
"Last time Pink toured Aus I worked at Jetty Surf in Melbourne and everyone was coming into the store with their Pink shirts on and would tell me stories about the show and the creative around it. Now a few short years later I will take the same stage as her in the biggest venues across my home country," Tones and I wrote.
"I will take her lead as I continue my creative process to create one of the biggest productions by an Aussie artist."
