Your pictures of Scotland: 14-21 December

A Kingfisher sits among frozen reeds by the side of a river. The bird is small and at the centre of the image and is yellow with blue plumage and blue on its face. It has dark-coloured eyes and a light coloured beak with an insect in it. It is standing on a reed, which is frozen and others behind it are also covered in white frost.

A frozen loch is surrounded by frosted grass with mountains in the background. The water is frozen with a number of rocks poking through the ice. At the centre of the loch is a small island covered in frozen grass. In the background, a snowy mountain range with six peaks covered in snow and dark-coloured land can be seen. Hair ice on a piece of wood. The ice is white in colour and looks like tightly wound string. It is on a stump of wood which is orange in colour on the top and dark green and black on the bottom.
Lisa Bryson captured this unusual "hair ice" at The Hermitage in Dunkeld. The phenomena forms on moist, rotting wood from broadleaf trees when temperatures are slightly under 0 °C (32 °F) and the air is humid [Lisa Bryson]
