Peter Stefanovic thinks Karl is 'the biggest star in Australia'

They’re two of the most famous brothers in Australia and now Peter Stefanovic has proved he’s also Karl Stefanovic’s biggest supporter.

Despite the 44-year-old being dumped from Channel Nine’s Today show back in December, his 37-year-old younger brother, Peter, thinks he’s the ‘biggest star in Australia’.

Speaking to news.com.au about the roasting Tom Gleeson gave Karl at this year’s Logies awards show, Peter said it was ‘funny’ and that ‘Karl was always gonna cop it’.

“He’s the biggest star in Australia, he knew he was gonna cop it,” Peter said.

“But what it showed is we really miss him, people enjoy seeing him back on camera. He’s a great entertainer, he should be on the box regularly.

“Even I enjoy seeing him back. I missed him.”

Tom Gleeson, who took home the top gong, ripped into the one-time Gold Logie winner and took aim at both his public sacking and high-profile wedding to Jasmine Yarborough.

"I think the reason they (the Logies) ask you to do the opening is because Channel Nine has run out of stars," he began.

"They don't have any left. They have a new rule on breakfast TV, if you are too entertaining they fire you. Am I right Karl. Is Karl here. Where is Karl?”

Tom went on to reference the network’s runaway reality hit, Married At First Sight and how the over the top program compared to Karl’s own Mexican nuptials.

"Congratulations to Married At First Sight by the way for their monster ratings. Give them a huge round of applause," Tom said.

"Channel Nine were happy to cash in on your ratings by showing off your tacky weddings and fired Karl Stefanovic for having one!"

Karl appeared to take the whole thing in his stride and was upbeat on the night, saying he was looking forward to not having to get up for his previous hosting gig the morning after the Logies.

The former chat show host has overcome a number of challenges in the past couple of years, weathering strong criticism after he split with his wife of more than 20 years, Cassandra Thorburn, just two years ago.

Karl went on to find love with 34-year-old Jasmine Yarbrough, with the pair marrying in a lavish wedding in Mexico in December.

All seemed peachy in the Stefanovic clan, until just days later when Karl’s brother, Peter Stefanovic, confirmed that he was leaving Channel Nine after 15 years with the network.

Peter had been fronting Weekend Today and some 60 Minutes segments.

Just days later, Karl was also dumped from the show, with his sister-in-law and Peter’s wife, Sylvia Jeffreys following them both out the door just before Christmas.

Now, Karl is set to host This Time Next Year and Peter has just started his new role on Sky News’ First Edition.
