Peter Navy Tuiasosopo, “Street Fighter” and “Necessary Roughness” Actor, Dies at 61: He 'Lived an Amazing Life'

The actor's son Manoah confirmed that his father died from heart complications on Monday, Feb. 10

Peter Navy Tuiasosopo, best known for his roles in Street Fighter and Necessary Roughness, has died. He was 61.

The late actor's son Manoah confirmed his death in a Facebook post shared on Monday, Feb. 10, writing, “With a heavy heart… our father Peter N. Tuiasosopo passed away this morning at 3:16 a.m.”

“My dad lived an amazing life and in no way does his impact stop here,” he continued. “We will continue to live with him in spirit, and as saddened as we are, he is without a doubt in Heaven with his brothers, sisters, parents, daughter, and Jesus, and no longer in pain.”

“His strength, love, compassion, and kindness will forever be felt,” he added, noting that celebration of life details were being prepared and would be announced at a later date.

Manoah confirmed to TMZ — who first broke the story — that his father died in Phoenix, Arizona after experiencing heart complications. He described his father to the outlet as "a trailblazer for Polynesian actors in Hollywood."

Peter began his acting career in the 90s with a role as Manumana in Necessary Roughness before going on to star in Street Fighter as E. Honda, who was a popular character in the videogame series. He also played Ed Tuttle in BASEketball.

He made several small appearances in other notable films like The Scorpion King, The Fast and the Furious, Austin Powers in Goldmember and Speedracer. Yet, he thrived in television, featuring on various hit shows like Magnum P.I., Black-Ish, NCIS and The Young and the Restless, where he made an appearance as the character Koa.

He also starred as Kaleo in the short-lived 2004 TV series Hawaii, which followed a fictional elite crime unit of the Honolulu Police Department. He was featured in a handful of episodes in other popular shows including New Girl, where he played the recurring character Big Bob, and Easy Money, where he played Manny Mamayo.

Several fans shared praise for the actor on Facebook, including one who wrote, “Beyond Heartbroken! No words I can say at this. Sad, sad day.”

Another chimed in, noting that Peter was “one of the best ever,” adding, “You are so loved Pete, praying for your family through this difficult time. Sending you love.” Another fan wrote, “This one hurts. My heart mourns for you all.”

One fan even sent his "deepest deepest condolences" to Peter's family, saying that the actor touched "us all with his big smile, and his wisdom."
